MOVING
TARGET-
A Performance by Michael Hampton
Saturday October 18th at 6pm
|
Divided into three discrete but inter-related units, Assault,
Pelt and The House Of Windsor, MOVING TARGET is an exploration
of power relations within these different performance settings:
the ransacked foyer of an unidentified administrative building
in a future gripped by martial law; an 18th century asylum, its
inmate subjected to the bestial degradation of straw, chains and
rotten tomatoes ;and a shooting gallery where an image of the
queen is used for target practice to the sound of patriotic music.
Using a range of formal means i.e. tableau vivant , taped
dialogue, audience participation, film and video projection to
achieve narrative coherence, MOVING TARGET operates on
a split level with a TV simulcast on site.
T1+2 artspace provides highly suggestive interior spaces i.e.
a refurbished industrial fridge and a huge loft to stage the piece,
which jumps from passive recollection to extreme physical engagement,
any quest for exhaustive interpretation continually thwarted both
by breaks in the frame and rebounded material The work is designed
to run for approximately 90 minutes.
Warning: Please note the piece contains strong language.
